This exhibition is a photographic comparison of select historical settings with their modern-day counterparts. These images represent Vanderburgh and its contiguous counties—Warrick, Gibson, and Posey in Indiana and Henderson in Kentucky.
The historical settings are from the late 19th and 20th centuries. In selecting the historical images, thought was given to the composition of the photographs—including the presence of people, vehicles, and general activity. Another consideration was the ability to enlarge vintage images in an acceptable manner. As a note, some efforts were made to remove blemishes from the historical images, but no alterations were made to the settings themselves. In taking modern photographs, an attempt was made to capture the same angle as the original though changes to the location or surroundings did not always allow this.
As you look at these images you will observe changes in many locales while some show continuity. We hope you enjoy this journey down “memory lane” and how various locales in our area looked then and now.
Thanks to the institutions and organizations and their staff members and volunteers who provided imagery and information for this exhibition.
