WINDSPEED

Windspeed Exhibit

Windspeed

Try It. Aim the blower at a house and press a button to start the fan. Use the knob to slowly turn the house completely around and observe how the wind affects each side. Change the fan speed and observe. Try other houses and compare.

What’s Going On? Some roof designs actually cause the wind to speed up. When air speeds up, the pressure drops and exerts less pressure on the roof. As air flows over it, the roof may lift off the house. This is similar to the Bernoulli Effect.

The Weather Connection. Damaging high-speed winds occur during severe storms. Weather conditions are important considerations when designing buildings, especially in windy areas.
