Though the Navy's original contract with the Evansville Shipyard called for the construction of 24 LSTs, by the late spring of 1944, the facility's 100th craft, LST 575, was nearing completion. This image depicts the bow section as it was placed on LST 575. The ship was launched on June 9, 1944.
