
Though the Evansville Shipyard employed over 19,200 men and women at its peak and over 70,000 different people during its existence, this sign at Hermann's Candy at 123 Main Street on March 7, 1944 indicates that there was still a need for more personnel. In 1943, the War Manpower Commission reported that Evansville faced a severe labor shortage.
