First Ship Decends

After 129 days in construction, the LST 157 descends the launching ramp toward the Ohio River. Notice that LSTs at the Evansville Shipyard were launched sideways with the bow facing upstream. A controlled launch, wooden cradles were placed under LSTs in order to keep them level as they slid down the launching ramp.

Though the launching of the 157 marked a great moment for the Shipyard, it was only the beginning of a tremendous effort at the facility.
