KITES TO KITTY HAWK
EXAMINES THE ROLE OF
KITES IN ACHIEVING
POWERED MANNED FLIGHT
105 years after the first successful airplane flight by the Wright
Brothers, this exhibition chronicles kites and their inventors who
helped lay the groundwork for this historic accomplishment. On
loan from the Drachen Foundation of Seattle, Washington, this
March 30 – June 22 exhibition in our Evansville Museum Transportation
Museum (EMTRAC) examines early flight
pioneers in Europe and the United States, including the Wright
Brothers, Samuel Franklin Cody and Oscar Chanute. The
exhibition features seven large replica kites of up to 11 feet in
wingspan and full-color interpretive panels documenting these
forerunners of powered flight.
