Solar and Lunar Observing
1:00 p.m.to 4:00 p.m.
Forget about all those times you were told never to look at the sun. This is
an opportunity to see the sun like never before. Amateurs astronmers will be
on-hand with solar telescopes to allow visitors to safely view the features on
the only star in our solar system.
With the proper protection, visitors will be able to view both the photosphere and chromosphere of the sun.
Depending on the activity of the sun, visitors may be able to see features such as sunspots, filaments, flares and prominences.
The sun is not the only thing visible during the day. Astronomy Day will also offer views of the first quarter moon
as we gaze at the features of the moon.
This event is subject to prevailing weather conditions and may be cancelled due to inclement weather.
Please note: Never look at the sun directly without proper protection!
