Outreach Programs

Bring the Museum into your classroom! Outreach programs for Grades 1, 2, 3 and 4 (and up) are currently available, and meet the guidelines of the Indiana Standards for Art, History and Science.  Programs include 45-minute interactive presentations led by Museum Docents. These programs are FREE for schools in Vanderburgh County, and cost $1.00 per student in Warrick and Posey Counties.

Discovery Outreach (Grade 1)
Through lively discussion and touchable artifacts, your students will learn a little about each of four areas--art, history, anthropology and science. Two Museum Docents will visit your classroom and share fascinating stories about everything you can discover at the Museum!

2-D Art (Grade 2)
Students will learn five basic elements of art—line, color, shape, texture and space— while learning about paintings and artists. Reproductions of paintings from the Museum’s permanent collection, along with hands-on components, form the basis of discussion.

Sculpture Outreach (Grade 3)
Students will learn the terms used to discuss sculpture; the various styles and mediums for creating sculpture; and see examples from around the world. Many items are touchable, providing an opportunity to demonstrate the concepts of weight and texture.

Unlocking the Secrets of Ancient Egypt (Grade 4 and up)
Students will get a first-hand look at one of the greatest wonders of the world: mummification.  Many cultures practiced mummification besides the Egyptians, including the Aztecs, Incas, Chinese, and the Japanese.  Students will explore the myths and truths about ancient Egyptian culture and witness the “mummification” of EMASHOTEP, an ancient Egyptian Royal.
